On a day that finally resembled spring, the Bruins took down West Springfield today, defeating the Spartans by a score of 8-1. Renteria, still in at #6, lead the way for the Bruins, mowing down his opponent 10-0. Huynh, at #3, was also able to easily handle his competition, winning 10-1 in his match. And there were 2 matches decided in tiebreaks today- O'Connor at #4 and Belcher at #5. O'Connor, down 9-3 with his back against the wall, took the slow and steady route, serving well and tracking everything down, building his way back into the match as his opponent's unforced errors started building. O'Connor won in the tiebreak, 7-2. Belcher, on the other hand, was neck and neck with his opponent throughout the match, never quite able to break away, and after being up a game most of the match, found himself in a tiebreaker fighting for the W. Belcher lost, 7-4 in the tiebreak.
For doubles, Yoo and Harrington had a close match the whole way through, Harrington handling pressure from the Spartans, and in the end the Bruins were able to get a 2 game lead to win 11-9 without a tiebreaker. O'Connor and Belcher at 3 went to work aggressively attacking the net in their match, missing a few games towards the middle of their set, but pulling things out in the end, winning 10-7.
Next up, the ever elusive Annandale match at home finally looks like a go, our own WeatherBruin claiming a 0% chance of rain tomorrow. Catch you at the courts!
